Suzuki Motor Corporation is a Japanese multinational corporation based in Minami-ku, Hamamatsu, Japan.
Suzuki manufactures automobiles, four-wheel drive vehicles, motorcycles, all-terrain vehicles (ATVs), outboards, wheelchairs, and a variety of other small internal combustion engines.
Suzuki has more than 45,000 employees and 35 production plants in 23 countries and 133 dealers in 192 countries.

It all started in 1909 when Michio Suzuki (1887–1982) founded the Suzuki Loom Works in the small coastal town of Hamamatsu, Japan. The business flourished when Suzuki began building looms for the automotive industry. In 1929, Michio Suzuki invented a new type of weaving machine, which was even exported abroad. Thus passed the first 30 years of this company, focused on the development and production of these looms.
But despite the success of his looms, Suzuki believed his business should diversify and began looking for other products to add to his business. Due to the demand of the moment, he thought it would be a good idea to focus on the development of a small car, so he started this new project in 1937. After two years he had already designed several compact prototypes, these models were powered by a 4-wheel drive engine. cylinders and four strokes, cooled by water and with a power of just 13 horses.
This new production line was interrupted at the beginning of the Second World War, as the Japanese government declared that civilian cars were not an essential product for the country. After the end of the war, Suzuki continued with its looms, since the import of cotton from the United States was a great boost in the sector, but unfortunately the cotton market entered a severe crisis in 1951.
Suzuki then decided to go back to motor vehicle production.

Suzuki's first two-wheeler was a bicycle equipped with an engine called "Power Free". Designed to be inexpensive, easy to build and maintain, the 1952 Power Free had a 36cc, one horsepower, two-stroke engine.
By 1954, Suzuki was producing 6,000 motorcycles a month and his company had officially changed its name to Suzuki Motor Co., Ltd. Following the success of its first motorcycles, Suzuki created an even more successful car: the 1955 Suzuki Suzulight.
The Suzulight featured front-wheel drive, four-wheel independent suspension, and rack-and-pinion steering.
In 1981 Suzuki reached an agreement with General Motors to meet the growing demand for small cars. With the help of "Isuzu" the Chevrolet "Sprint" ("Suzuki Cultus" in Japan) is introduced in the United States, initiating a series of alliances with other automakers.
In 1985 the "Samurai" was launched, the first automobile in the United States marketed under the Suzuki brand. Likewise, since 1987 Suzuki has been exporting some of its models to the United States under the Geo brand created by GM to compete with foreign brands. In 1998 Chevrolet absorbed Geo, passing its models to be sold under the Chevrolet brand
In 2002, the brand's global sales reached 30 million units.
Between 2009 and 2015 Volkswagen had a 19.9% stake, but after certain legal battles, a court ordered the German brand to sell its stake to Suzuki, which had to pay $ 3.8 billion in September 2015.

Most of Suzuki's vehicle production continues to focus on Japan and India.
In 2020, the entry into force of the European Union (EU) emission regulations meant the end of the marketing of the Suzuki Jimny in the Member States due to its high carbon dioxide emissions.
In 2019 Suzuki established an alliance with Toyota to develop autonomous vehicles.
In March, the two Japanese companies announced that they would begin joint product development, through collaboration in production, in addition to promoting mutual supply.
