Škoda Auto is a Czech vehicle manufacturer with more than 120 years of history.
Its origins date back to the early 1890s and like so many vehicle manufacturers, they began by making bicycles.
The founder is Václav Klement, a Czech bookseller from the Austro-Hungarian Empire who, due to a fault with his bicycle and the response received by the manufacturer, decided to open his own bicycle repair shop together with the manufacturer Václav Laurin.
In 1898, they made their first motorcycle, with a disastrous result, very dangerous and unreliable. Due to the problems that arose with the manufacture of this first motorcycle, they turned to the German engineer Robert Bosh for advice. The first motorcycle manufactured by this company was called Slavia whose debut took place in 1899. Only one year later in 1900 the company had grown substantially, both in employees and in manufacturing, which led to it being known as the first manufacturer of motorcycles.
In 1905 they incorporated automobiles into their manufacture, their first model was the Voiturette A, a great success, which made the company one of the most important in the Austro-Hungarian Empire.
During the First World War, the factory was dedicated to the manufacture of weapons material, at the end of the war, Skoda began with the manufacture of trucks, due to economic problems and several unfortunate events, Skoda decides to look for a partner , so Skoda Works was born, thus becoming the largest company in the Austro-Hungarian Empire. With the arrival of the Second World War, the factory became part of Hermann Göring Werke, to supply weapons to the German war.
In July 1945 the factory reopened its doors with the manufacture of the ser 1101, a new version of the popular Skoda, at the end of that year they became part of the economy of the communist regime, despite this, the brand continued to maintain a good reputation due to its high reliability and safety.
Due to its communist regime, at the end of the 80s, Skoda still maintained the vehicle concept of the 60s, although, due to its great design and reliability, they were still competitive cars, even in the racing world, where Skoda he was still a rival to beat.
The change took place in 1987 when the Skoda Favorit was launched on the market, still with the foundations of the 60s, but with a western aesthetic thanks to the collaboration of Bertone, actions that led it to be widely sold in the West, especially in the United Kingdom. United.
After the fall of the communist bloc, the companies began to privatize and seek foreign investors, the Volkswagen group was chosen, so in 1991, Skoda became part of that group, thus becoming the fourth brand.
Thanks to this privatization, the brand begins to modernize, in part, thanks to the use of Volkswagen group platforms such as the VW polo or the SEAT Ibiza.
For this reason, by sharing platforms and engines with the rest of the group's vehicles, Skoda acquires a great reputation at the European level, thanks to its innovation, safety and reliability, having become one of the favorites among the middle class of European customers.
Currently Skoda has numerous car models for sale, namely:
