Volkswagen means people's car in German, proof of this are its numbers, it has three models among the best sellers in history, namely: Golf, Beetle and Passat.
The beginnings of this manufacturer take place back in the 30s, specifically in 1933, when with the rise to power of Hitler, he decided to promote the German automobile industry, for this, he decided to create an accessible, economic, simple and good performance vehicle. At that time the village car or Volkswagen is born.
The project was carried out by the well-known Ferdinand Porsche.
Hitler had in mind to create the largest automobile factory in all of Europe, for this they sought a site with navigable river access and a power station to supply the factory with both material and electricity, they also needed a city to accommodate the workers and their families. The chosen place was the village of Fallersleben.
The Beetle, or Käfer, was the first Volkswagen to hit the market, although the name Hitler chose was Kdf-Wagen (Kraft durch Freude: ‘strength through joy’), a name that would only be used by members of the Nazi army and in catalogues.
In order to provide the people with a low-cost vehicle, the government devised a financing system whereby the customer paid 5 marks a week, with which they came to raise almost 300 million marks, but with the arrival of World war II, the defeat of the German side, the imprisonment of Ferdinand Porsche and the delivery of the money from the factory to the Soviets for war reparations, those commissions were never delivered to their buyers.
In 1945, the factory was acquired by the English and began mass production of the beetle.
This model became one of the best sellers, taking away in 1972, the record of the best-selling car in history to the legendary Ford T. In 1978, the production of the beetle ended, having been the best-selling model of the moment and therefore rising with the title of the car of the century.
In 1974, Voklswagen presents the Golf, another icon of the brand, which in 2002 exceeds in sales the legendary beetle, another of the great triumphs of the brand was the Volkswagen Passat, which like the previous ones, was a success in sales.
Although not everything has been good in the brand Volkswagen, in 2015, comes to light one of the biggest scandals to level automotive history, it is known as Dieselgate, for years, in particular from 2009 to 2015, the brand was faking the emissions of their vehicles to have installed a software that modified these parameters, so that emitted up to 40 times more gas than what is allowed by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
