The Italian car brand Fiat has been selling vehicles since 1899.
Among its main markets are: Europe, North America, Latin America and Asia, having strong sales in Brazil and Italy.
Fiat was born in Turin, Italy, in 1899. Key moment since at that time there was no such automobile industry in Europe, and since most citizens work in sectors such as the countryside, the car would provide a great leap and advance in cities.
Giovanni Agnelli stands out among all the shareholders of the foundation of this company, due to his strategic vision and his determination. In 1902 he was elected general manager, a position enhanced by his philosophy that the most important points in the automotive sector should be the diversification of production and attention to emerging markets.
The first model to be launched is the so-called 4 HP, followed by its successors: 8 HP, 10 HP,12 HP and 24 HP, 60 HP 100 HP and the 130 HP reaching the latter a speed of 160km per hour).
It is in 1903 when Fiat manufactures its first truck and, 5 years later, in 1908, they export the taxi ‘1 Fiacre’ which manages to begin to provide service in emblematic places such as New York, London and Paris.
Also in the first decade of 1900 began to appear models of vital importance such as: S70 Record (1911), S74 Corsa (1911), Zero (1912), 70 (1915), 2B (1918), 1T (1920) and 510S (1920).
In 1914 the company built the 18 BL truck, which was destined for the Italian army in World War I.
In 1921 and despite the times of crisis, Fiat created its only car with a V12 engine, and then built the 519, in addition to building the first electric motor for rail.
From 1930 they began to establish their factories outside Italy, in places such as Spain, France and Poland. And about 10 years later (exactly in 1939) they begin to have as their main idea to focus on mass production.
Fiat was of vital importance in World War II as they reduced car manufacturing to focus on building tanks, aircraft and ships. Due to this historical event, during 1944 its production plants were almost completely destroyed, and in 1945, because of Agnelli's death, Vittorio Valleta took over as president of the company.
In 1955 they created their first diesel car. And from those dates both their sales and their employees began to multiply. In 1966 they manufactured models of high success such as: the 1800B, the 1500 Cabriolet, the 850 or the 124, elected Car of the Year in 1967. And with the passage of time, relevant models continue to appear and factories continue to modernize and renovate, highlighting the year 1948 where electronic components and new materials begin to develop strongly, in addition to taking into account the protection of the environment. Thanks to this, electric or methane-powered vehicles are born.
The nineties are mainly characterized by the launch of models that completely renew the range, such as the Fiat Punto, the Fiat Coupe, the Fiat Ulysse or the Fiat Bravo.
A date that marks the transition of the company is the year 2008, year of crisis that deeply affected the automotive industry and reason why in 2009, Fiat group signs a preliminary agreement with the Chrysler group. Thanks to this agreement, the Fiat Group can use Chrysler platforms for its most emblematic models, such as the Chrysler 300C), while the American company expands its product range. In this way, both manufacturers exploit their commercial networks to expand their presence.
Today, the company continues to develop innovations in its vehicles and working to ensure that they are ideally suited to the needs of drivers.
